Simple Pan-Seared Mako Shark Steaks

I came across a great deal on shark steaks at my local grocery store.  Always willing to try something new, I decided to pick some up.  I did a little research and found that most recipes called for marinating them for at least 30 minutes but I wanted to see what the shark tasted like on its own.  The verdict?  We loved it!  It has a mild fish taste and is very tender.  We will definitely be having this again.  Next time, I will definitely experiment with some marinades.  I'm thinking Asian style or maybe even topping them with diced tomatoes, balsamic vinegar and mozzarella.  Shark bruschetta!  YUM!  I served this with Alfredo noodles and green beans.

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb shark steaks
  • 1/4 c olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
Directions:

Heat 3 tbsp of the oil in a large skillet to medium heat for 4 minutes.  While the oil is heating, rub the remaining tbsp of oil all over the shark.  Season with salt and pepper.

Turn the heat up to high.  Once the oil starts to send up wisps of smoke, add the steaks in the pan.  Cover and cook for 4 minutes.   Turn the steaks over and cook for an additional 4 minutes.

Remove from heat and allow to stand for 2 minutes.

Serve with a lemon-butter sauce.

Enjoy!

  1. shark steaks- now that is something to get excited about. I love how perfectly cooked they are with easy simple ingredients. When you have a great piece of fish or meat for that matter you let it do the talking and not all the other ingredients and flavors!
